I'm a Spanish teacher in Massachusetts. I created this log to comment on other teacher's blogs. One day I'll have enough time to write a real entry about my students. I suppose I can start with something that happened yesterday in one of my classes.
Somehow the topic of "Brokeback Mountain" came up, and one of my male student's said the following:
I'm afraid to watch that movie. I'm afraid I might get turned on.
Best line of the year so far. (He was only joking, but it was still funny.)
That's all I've got. I hope to get more interesting or talk about some of the difficulties I have soon!

Hello and welcome!
That sentence is funny, indeed. Coming from the US it is, actually; if it came from Europe it would be rather rude. You, there, have this double moral about gayness (you just need to see the Oscars). Here we would not make fun of it. As you know, in Spain, we have gotten gay marriage and in the UK no matter what, you can't say it: whether it is gayness, blackness or jewishness, you better keep your mouth shut.
Though, here in Spain, in schools, you can still see children making fun of it or using this as insults. Too bad! Though, it is not teacher's fault, it is paret's. We should start by teaching parents and then teaching children.
