Day 49 - Thank God for little miracles

It's been two weeks since I've made it back here to blogworld, but alas I return. This past week I was swamped with doing grades, which were due yesterday morning. About 30 minutes after they supposedly closed, I realized I completely screwed this one girl's grade. I gave her a 67 instead of an 85 because I put all the grades into my snapgrades.com account, but forgot to enter a test grade that she made up late (which was 25% of her grade). This girl FREAKED. Now, she's already the kind of girl that if she doesn't get things, she shuts down and doesn't want to participate. When I told her her grade and tried to give her some rationale (although I really couldn't because it even seemed strange to me), she threw all her stuff off of her desk, put her head down, and COMPLETELY shut down. I felt soooooo bad. I thought I had lost her forever. I gave the kids something to work on, and I went and hand-calculated her grade and got an 85. Now, my math isn't perfect, which is why I use snapgrades, but I couldn't understand why snapgrades gave me a 67. So I logged on, and I realized that the test grade was missing! I quickly added it in and lo and behold it was a 85! I quickly told the girl about the mistake and sent an email to her vice principal correcting this. The vice principal actually showed up a couple of minutes later to talk about another student, and I informed her about the grade at the time. She said don't worry about it, but the 67 would show up on this report card but it will be corrected on the 2nd quarter report card. This was a little better, but I still felt bad for the girl! I explained this to her, gave her her password to get into snapgrades, and told her to have her parents call me if they gave her problems. On my way to lunch, however, I was told that grades had actually stayed open until 11! Since it was 10:55 at the moment, I ran back upstairs to my computer and managed to put in the 85 and print it out with 2 minutes to go! I was so excited to find the girl and tell her. I didn't see her until today, but she was so much happier, and today in class she participated and showed a complete turn around from yesterday! I couldn't believe that of all the people's grades to screw up, I had to screw up this girl's! I'm so glad that it was resolved before it got too ugly! Thank God for the other teachers who never get their grades in on time!
