Sometimes when I have all of my classes back-to-back, I have to pick a class that I can trust to handle themselves alone and make a break for the potty. Today was one such day. Kids were busy doing written work, and I snuck out. When I got back, a student told me the room phone rang and that I needed to call the office back. I call back, and they wanted me to get on my cell phone and call one of the head honchos in city hall. "I have a class," I tell the secretary. "I can't call for another 2 hours or so." "That's fine," she said.
Fast forward to lunch time. I call, wondering why on earth I would be getting a call from the "important people." Turns out they wanted my help with spelling a word in Spanish! Interrupt my class to help spell one word (which they figured out by the time I called). AND hypocritically ask me to pull out my cell phone in class and make a phone call?! I don't think so! There are memos all the time about how we're supposed to set a good example for the students and not use our cell phones in class, but then you blatantly ask me to break that rule for a single word?! I was pissed off. I don't get these people sometimes.
I ended up not being able to eat my lunch because by the time I got it, class was already back in session.
In better news, I get to stay home tomorrow because we're observing Rosh Hashanah. I plan to do laundry (if I'm not too lazy), sleep, and read.

Admins motto "Do as I say, not as I do."
Hypocrites abound in the administrative world. *sigh*
I don't answer my phone in class. It drives the kids batty, because I let the phone ring, but I refuse to let that interrupt my class (no matter what my class is doing - even if I'm not "giving instruction" I still refuse to answer).
Funny how they get their panties in such a bunch about us "teaching bell to bell" and not wasting intructional time, but they interrupt our classes all day with dumb announcements over the PA and phone calls that could easily be made during our conference period, but they don't bother to find out when that is.
I think I would have exploded if I'd gotten that call. I don't let my students get away with that! I tell them to look the word up in the dictionary to find out how to spell it!
