Can of worms

I may have opened a can of worms today at our department meeting, but I was tired of holding things in.  It mostly involved the fact that one of our coworkers last year did NOTHING that he was supposed to do content wise.  The kids were passed on to the next level and currently know nothing and are failing.  He is no longer at our school.  My other coworker took offense to what I said and thought I was talking about her (I was and I wasn't. She wasn't the focus.), but maybe it was just her guilty conscience.  I also brought up the ridiculousness of the fact that we have no curriculum, no plan.  Director acknowledge it without stating that there was a plan to do anything about it.  I'm just going to keep bringing it up at our meetings and hope that she finally decides to do something.

I'm tired of being the nice guy, of rolling over and letting people do what they want.  I'm not going to sit by while parents blame me for being too strict on grades/content when it's only because I'm the one who's setting high expectations and holding kids to them.  If they want me to pass everyone just because they're cute, I'll just stop wasting my time teaching and grading all together.  Then I'll start looking for a job elsewhere.

My department is headed this direction too. We have a Spanish curriculum but several teachers don't follow it; they do their own thing, to the detriment of the program.(and of the teachers who get them the year after) SO FRUSTRATING!
