Welcome, Wee Little Ones

Today we welcomed the freshmen to high school. They seem to be like a good group of kids, although many showed up late. Tsk tsk. They ran through the entire schedule, with 20-minute classes (which really turned out to be about 15 minutes each). In my 5 classes and 1 study hall, I had roughly 24 freshmen over 3 classes. My first period class is a study hall. I had 1 freshman in there. It was really awkward. In another one of my classes, I had 2 freshmen. It was slightly less awkward, but I think that's because they were two easy-going kids. My last class of freshmen had a total of about 29 students (21 of which are freshmen). A couple of the "freshmen" didn't show because, as it turns out, this is their second freshman year. Hopefully they'll get it right this time!

Tomorrow, the whole school shows up. I thought about giving out my syllabus tomorrow (and I even made copies), but I think I'll hold off on that until Monday because I'm pretty sure they'll lose them over the weekend since they won't have a notebook with them tomorrow. I'll just have to run over procedures and all that good stuff.

*Sigh* I'm already getting tired, and the year hasn't really started yet!

I just looked at my gradebook and did seating charts, class lists, etc... I have a couple of really big classes; one of them is last period. UGH. I'm tired thinking about that too. In my Spanish 1 it looks like I have a couple of natives. I'm going to try to get them to move to 2nd or even 3rd year. I don't want them in 1st year! They'll be totally bored and intimidate me.
